For Reviewers & Media
Everything you need to cover Storycraft: Plot Twist. If you're a reviewer, content creator, or journalist and want to get ahead of the March 2027 Kickstarter launch, we want to hear from you.
Storycraft: Plot Twist is a competitive card game where 2-5 players take on the roles of rival aspiring authors, each racing to build the most acclaimed novel from a shared deck of Book Element Cards.
Players move between six city locations each turn: the Coffee Shop, the Park, the Town Hall, the Flower Shop, the Bookstore, and the Inn, each offering unique strategic actions. Cards are collected and played onto player boards in six element slots: Lead Character, Love Interest, Setting, Villain, Climax, and Resolution.
30 Publisher Request cards introduce secret recurring objectives that score Acclaim bonuses every Book, rewarding genre depth, strategic card combinations, or bold risk-taking. The game is structured in Books of 5 turns each; standard play is 3 Books (60-90 minutes).
The tone is cozy and competitive. Think game-night drama wrapped in a romantasy setting. If you enjoy Wingspan or Ticket to Ride but wish the table talked more about tropes, Plot Twist is for you.
Primary audience: Casual to mid-weight gamers who read, especially fans of romantasy, BookTok, and story-driven games. The game doesn't require genre expertise to enjoy; it rewards people who like planning, light sabotage, and a good narrative excuse for what just happened.
Secondary audience: Gateway gamers looking for a step up from party games. Plot Twist has real strategic depth without punishing new players. Most people learn the turn sequence in under 10 minutes.
Comparison titles: Wingspan (engine building, accessible depth), Ticket to Ride (route racing, blocking), Sushi Go (hand management, light take-that).
Storycraft Games is an independent studio founded by Andy Quirin, based in Denver, Colorado. Plot Twist is the studio's debut title, designed and developed over the course of 2025-2026 with multiple playtests, a full simulation model, and way too many late nights arguing about card text.
The studio believes game night should feel like the best chapter of a book, which is why Plot Twist is built around stories, not just scores.
